Local receipt support

Reads Latvian, Estonian and Lithuanian receipts, with diacritics intact.

Per-insurer categorization

Receipts are sorted into your own claim categories, like consultations or dental.

100% on-device

The receipt photo never leaves the phone. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored.

Barcode SDK

Turn any barcode into structured and validated data.

Barcode SDK reads the code, decodes its contents, and returns typed fields your app can use directly. Straight from the camera, on the device.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Scantic?
Scantic is a subsidiary of Hazel Apps SIA (reg. no. 40203274203), a company specialized in mobile app development, especially vision-based solutions. Products built by Hazel Apps are used by hundreds of thousands of users worldwide. Under the Scantic brand it builds on-device scanning SDKs for mobile apps: Claim SDK, a receipt OCR SDK that reads receipt photos into claim-ready data for insurance apps, and Barcode SDK, a barcode scanner SDK that reads 17 barcode symbologies and decodes GS1 barcodes into typed fields. Both Scantic SDKs run entirely on the device: no cloud, no upload, no per-scan fee.
Which scanning SDKs does Scantic offer?
Scantic offers two specialized scanning SDKs. Claim SDK is an on-device receipt OCR SDK for insurance apps. It extracts document date, document number, provider registration number, provider name and total amount from a receipt photo and maps the service to the insurer’s own claim categories. Barcode SDK is an on-device barcode scanner SDK for retail, logistics and healthcare. It reads EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-E, Code 128, ITF-14, GS1 DataBar, QR, DataMatrix, PDF417 and Aztec codes, and decodes GS1 application identifiers such as GTIN, batch number, expiry date, net weight and price.
What does on-device scanning mean, and why does it matter for GDPR?
On-device scanning means the receipt photo or camera frame is processed inside your own mobile app on the user’s phone. Nothing is uploaded, there is no Scantic server in the scanning path, and no third party ever touches the data. For GDPR that removes an entire class of work: no new data-processing agreement for the scanning step, no data-residency question, no retention policy for uploaded images. On-device scanning also works offline, in a basement, a warehouse or on a plane, because no network connection is required.
Can I add receipt scanning and OCR to my insurance app in Latvia, Lithuania or Estonia?
Yes. Scantic Claim SDK is a receipt OCR SDK built for insurance apps in these markets. It embeds in your existing iOS, Android or Flutter app, reads Latvian, Estonian and Lithuanian receipts at around 99% field accuracy, and returns structured JSON your claim form can autofill. It handles the local details generic OCR gets wrong: diacritics, PVN and registration-number formats, and faded thermal-print layouts. A typical integration takes an afternoon.
Does Scantic Barcode SDK support GS1 barcodes and EU store-scale labels?
Yes. Barcode SDK decodes GS1 payloads into application-identifier elements with typed accessors and check-digit validation: GTIN (01), SSCC (00), batch number (10), serial number (21), production, best-before and expiration dates (11, 15, 17), net weight (310n), price (392n) and item count (37). That covers the EU store-scale case directly: the GS1 DataBar Expanded label a supermarket scale prints for weighed goods carries GTIN, net weight and price in one symbol, and Barcode SDK hands your app all three as typed values instead of a raw string.
How much does a Scantic scanning SDK cost?
Scantic prices each SDK as one fixed annual license. Scans, users and devices are unlimited, and there are no per-scan fees, unlike cloud OCR and barcode APIs that meter every scan from roughly $0.05 upwards. Because scanning runs on the device, the price you agree is the price you pay however much your app scans.
Which platforms do Scantic SDKs support: iOS, Android and Flutter?
Claim SDK ships for iOS, Android and Flutter from one shared C++ core with a stable C API and native bindings for Swift, JNI and Dart FFI, so output is identical on every platform. Barcode SDK ships for iOS 15 and later, built on the system camera and vision frameworks with no third-party dependencies; Android and Flutter bindings are available on request.
How is an on-device SDK different from a cloud OCR or barcode scanning API?
A cloud API uploads every image or frame to a vendor server, which means a network round trip on every scan, a per-scan fee, a data-processing agreement, and a feature that stops working when signal does. An on-device SDK does the same reading inside your app: no upload, no metering, no server to secure, and scanning that works offline. Scantic SDKs also return structured data, claim fields or GS1 elements, rather than raw text you have to parse yourself.
Can we run a pilot before we commit?
Yes. Most teams start with a demo on their own receipts or their own labels, then run a pilot build inside their existing app. Documentation and a sample app are shared on request. Send us a sample and we will set it up.
